He studied an outbreak and realised that all the victims were drinking from the same water pump

He removed the handle and the outbreak ended

This led to the water and sewage system being improved

Cholera - Deadly infection that is waterborne and airborne

Scourge - Great suffering

Squalor - extremely dirty

Wretched - Unhappy

Sceptre - Royal wand/staff

Stagnant - Water with no flow

Putrid - Decaying/rotitng

Diseases - Typhoid, smallpox and TB

How would these spread in a city?

Typhoid - sewers

Tuberculosis - Living conditions

Smallpox - Living conditions

Cholera - water supply

Sewers need to be flushed with water

Better living conditions and food for the poor = better workers
