Stalin took control of the USSR as the sole leader
Starting the totalitarian phase
Stalin tried to control communist parties worldwide
Through the Comintern
Founded in 1919
Soviet took control of the economy and ended NEP
Replacing it with five-year plans
With the aim of making the country self-sufficient
Collectivisation of agriculture was a plan
They forced expropiations to create
Collective farms and state farms
It failed in agriculture and caused famines
It produced a phase of accelerated economic growth
Growth was more significant as it paralleled Great Depression
But it suffered social rejection
Citizens did not benefit from industrialisation in their daily lives
