Mayors
Major cities - inc. London, Manchester, and Birmingham - have directly elected mayors
Have significant powers over transport, housing and other key areas
DEVOLUTION as a whole
Has led to a greater emphasis on:
- local decision-making
- a more diverse political landscape
Has a wider range of political parties and independent candidates standing for election at local level
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: devolution in England is still limited compared to other parts of the UK (Scotland and Wales - who have their own Parliaments and more extensive devolved powers)
