Energy and resources
Lesson 1
Energy and resources
Energy
energy is a source of power, it has the abilty to do work (renewable energy or non-renewable energy)
Resource
something we can use for our own benefit. any physical material that is part of the earth that people need and value
Energy Resource
materials of elements that can be used to produce energy and therfore have a value placed on them
Different types of energy resources
Nuclear, biofuels/ biomass, fossil fuels, water, solar panel, wind, Tidal, geothermal, fracking, fuelwood, hydroelectric
Lesson 2
Renewable energy
renewable energy is energy that comes form nautural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat
Non-newable energy is a nautral resource which cannot be produced, grown, or generated such as coal, petrol, natural gas and nucleaur power.
Lesson 3-
what are fossil fuels?
They are a finite resource meaning they will run out and they also pollute the atmoshphere with to much carbon dioxide
they are also a type of non-renwable energy that is made of the remains of dead organisms
How each fossil fuel is made?
Dead plants + pressure & heat= coal
dead organisms = oil
dead organism + more pressure and heat = natural gas
Lesson 4-
Crude oil
Canada, russia, venusala, saudi arabia, iraq and iran produce the most amount of crude oil in the world
the benefits of oil is that it can be used for medicine, and it can be turned into many differnet types of products
Lesson 5-
BP oil rig explosion
the BP deepwater horizon oil spill happened on april 20th 2010, the explosion had a total of 4.9 million barrels of oil into the gulf of mexico. it took month for the oil to finally be capped and BP had to pay a total of $18.7 billion `
Lesson 6
Fracking
decrese in fossil fuels..
the more we use up the amount left decreases as fossil fuel are a finite resource. If we run out of fossil fuel this will effect LIDC
fracking is the shortened term for a process knowns as 'hydraulic fracturing'its a technique for extracting oil and natural gas from shale or rock underground. the process of fracking involves deep wells (oftern more than 10,000 feet deep) into the ground and then they are filled with water and materials we put in at a high pressure. causing the rock to fracture.
