Political instability
President had power to appoint or dismiss the Chancellor as he wished, could suspend democracy for a time
Many right wing and left wing extremists who wanted to destroy democracy, central parties had to work hard to maintain peace
Many political parties in Reichstag, coalition government, does not work well in crisis
Economic problems
Prices in Germany had been rising since WW1, after reparation bill, panic set in, leading to hyperinflation
Hyperinflation resulted in those living on pensions/savings for them to become worthless, and the workers suffered as wage rises could never keep pace with prices
Invasion of the Ruhr
When Germany couldn't pay pack money in 1922, the French invaded the Ruhr (Germany's main industrial area) to take back what they were owed
