Types Of Law
Statute Law -
Law that is passed through parliament
Not necessarily constitutional but can be constitutional
Can be changed and reversed by new acts of parliment
Common Law -
Legal principles established by judges in cases, these provide precedents going forward
Presumption of innocent of an accused person is an example of these president
Links to the royal prerogative which is mostly ceremonial now.
Convention -
Norms and rules that are considered binding on how a government should behave but not formally set out
Built constitutional convention on referendums for big constitutional change
Gordan Brown introduced a convention for the UK to go to war when parliament agrees
Authoritative works -
Books that explain the working of the political system but lack legal backing
I.E. May's "a treatise on the law, privileges, proceedings and usage of parliament
Treatise (INC. eu law) -
UK is bound by international treaties it signs. However brexit has led to some doubts over the UK's willingness to its own withdrawal agreement

Aims -
Modernisation - Bring the UK constitution up to date
Democratisation - Increase democratic participation through referendums
Decentralisation - Decentralise the government from Westminster using devolved bodies
