Women
1975, Sex Discrimination Act - aimed to ensure equality of opposition in employment and education, based on gender or marital status.
The Equality Opportunities Commission aimed to oversea the equal pay and sex discrimination act - only 10% of sex discrimination claims in the workplace were successful + only launched 9 investigation between 76 and 83.
1977, International Women's Day established by the UN.
1975, Employment Protection Act - introduced paid maternity leave + outlawed dissmissal on the grounds of pregnancy.
1970, Equal pay Act but did to come into force until 1975.

Race + immigration
In 1976, only 70 police officers had an ethnic minority background + young black ppl felt they were unnecessarily harassed by the police.
1974, surge of immigrants form Bangladesh after it book away from Pakistan.
By 1974, over 1 million New Commonwealth immigrants had come to Britain.
1976, another Race Relations Act, aimed to tackle discrimination on the basis of race - commission for racial equality.
1971, Immigration Act, restricted immigration from the New Commonwealth - they need at least 1 grandparent born in Britain.
The National Front became very active in parts of London - it never on any elections but it had up to 20,000 members by 1976. They held marches in areas with lost of immigrants.
Thatcher, politicly campaign promised to limit the no.of immigrants.
1978, huge demonstration and concert against racism in Trafalgar Square attracted 100,000 people.
Enviornmentalism
Anti-nuclear protests expanded to campaign against the use of nuclear power due to the longe term dangers of nuclear waste.
Between 1957 and 1979 there had been 5 incidents at the nuclear power station Stellafield in dealing with waste.
Environmental pressure group, Friends of the Earth expanded to the UK in 1971.

1977, Greenpeace UK was formed.
1975, outrage when it was discovered beagles in labs were forced to smoke 30 cigarettes a day. - animal rights protester carried out violent attack on labs.
1976, Animal Liberation Front was formed - extreme violence - letter bombs including Thatcher in 1984.
Youth
Skinheads - tended to be working class, became increasingly linked with the National Front and football hooliganism by the end of the 70s.
Football hooliganism worsened over the 70s, such as the Chelsea Headhunters, violence became so common it became known as 'the English disease'.

Punks - influenced by the USA, such as the Sex Pistila - rejected the hippy culture. created moral panic.
The Sex Pistols releases a controversial single 'God Save the Queen in 1977, which the BBC refused to play.
