THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVES (TP) IN QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
Epistemology
Liminal consideration: Even if the question lies on qualitative research, I find crucial to take always into account that this kind of research is partially informed by quantitative one. (Hulstijn et al., 2014)
The assumptions about reality supported by the theoretical perspectives under the model of qualitative research are based on an empirical referent.
Central research purpose, (Glesne, 2006):
Predict:
Understand:
Emancipate:
Deconstruct:
Positivism
Interpretativism
Critical Theory
Pstructuralism
Socio cultural
Cognitive
Decolonial perpectives
In this sense, it is plausible to have the incidence from the epistemology informing quantitative research without leaving the central philosophy or the way to get knowledge from the world/reality.
In these TP, the world /reality and so on the truth is perceived through observation and experimentation. They are also caracterised by the fact of only considering the inputs that are perceived by sens. As it is stated in the category, the main goal of these TP is to generalize results and understantd the world/reality studied through laws or predermined behaviors. They tend to the elaboration of theories that find veracity in their transposition in the reality. (Glesne, 2006)
In these TP, intimately linked with social sciences, the world/reality by interpretation. These TP focus on the study, understannding, description and interpretation of the human being: behaviors, beliefs, interactions, culture, society, communication, etc. From these TP, there is the inclusion of those non material aspects as the result of the interaction of humans with the physical world. (Glesne, 2006)
Mostly related with natural sciences.
Related to social sciences.
This TP takes of from the principles of understanding the world but it goes beyond. It means that the objective is to recognize, "detecting and unmasking beliefs and practices that limit human freedom, justice and democracy" (Glesne, 2006, p. 10). In other words this TP searches to transform the conditions of oppression.

In these TP, we can find a reunion of understanding and emancipation in order to reveal the installed mechanisms on the social reality to deconstruct and allow the emerging of local realities. In this way these TP give to the subjets the opportunity to challenge all the behaviours promoted by external contexts.
