Law Lords were appointed by the Lord Chancellor in consultation with the government

Lord Chief Justice heads the judiciary, not the Lord Chancellor
members of the court are appointed by an independent commission with no political influence
with the UK leaving the European Union, the Supreme Court cannot be overruled by the European Court of Justice
however, the Court does have a constitutional duty to uphold the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR)
composed of 12 justices - appointed based on legal expertise and/or judicial experience
by a committee composed of the leading figures of the judiciary of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland
appointed until they are 75 years old
