Lesson 6
The types of Joints/routes
Rigid
Fixes 2 components to one another and provides no degrees of freedom
Revolute
Has a single rotational degree of freedom, much like a hinge.
Slider
Has a single translational degree of freedom. it is used for components that slide along one another
Cylindrical
Provides 2 degrees of freedom: one translation and one rotational. Components joined with a cylindrical joint always rotate around the same axis
Pin
pin slot joint allows 2 degree of freedom, but components can rotate around can rotate around different axes
Planar
A planar allows 3 degrees of freedom. it allows 2 direction of translation in a plane and a single rotational direction normal to that plane. it is useful for joining 2 components so they can rotate while sliding across the plane
Ball
2 degrees of rotational freedom: pitch and yaw. pitch allows components to rotate around the z axis.
Yaw rotates components around the x axis
Steps of doing dimension
Dimension Line
Has an arrowhead on each end
Step 5: Extension Line Offset
A Gap between the object surface and the extension line.
Extension Line
Do not touch the object lines and extend slightly past the dimension
Dimension Text
Base dimension
Tolerance
Defines how much the dimension is allowed to deviate
Types of tolerance
This are the 3 types of tolerance
Bilateral Tolerance
Vary in 2 directions
Both directions need not vary by the same amount
Unilateral Tolerance
Only one direction
limit Tolerance
The upper and lower limits of the dimension are specified
Calculating Tolerance
Tolerance = Upper limit - Lower Limit
Dimension
Type of Dimension
Datum Dimension
Consists of several dimensions originating from a common reference surface
Chain of Dimension
used if the function of the object would not be affected by the accumulation of the tolerance
Combined Dimension
Use both chain and parallel dimensioning
Dimensioning of multiple feature
To multiple same dimensions. Use N x Dimension
Dimensioning of radius
Shows a radius dimensioned with the centre of the radius located on the drawing
Dimension of circle, arc, holes
Circle
By its diameter
Arc
By its radius
Holes
Their Centerlines
Dimensioning angles
It is marked with a curved dimension line
Has the degree symbol
