Matter :red_flag: :star::+1::skin-tone-6:(just like my stoobid bro)
What is matter?
All living things and non-living things are made of matter
It has mass and occupies space
things like light and heat that does not occupy space and doesn't have mass are not matter
How do we measure mass and volume
mass is the amount of matter in an object
Is measured in grams(g), kilograms(kg)
a balance can be used to measure the mass of 1 object or compare masses of 2 objects
Eletronic balance can be used to measure a mass of an object
Object is put in a container
M. of an Obj = M. of Obj w Container - M. of Container
volume is the amount of space an object occupies
in cm^3, m^3, ml, and l
Bigger objects have larger volumes than smaller objects
An object has to be removed or displaced before another matter can occupy its space
Is air matter?
Some matter is invisible like air and other gases
Air has mass and occupies space
Matter and its three states
Matter can exist in solid, liquid and gaseous, 3 states
Solid cannot be compressed, has a definite volume and shape
Extra question: How to find volume of solids and liquids
Find solid
Have a beaker of water, put the solid inside and measure the volume increased
Find liquid
Step1: Put measuring cylinder on a flat surface
Step2: Position eye at same level and read it!
Liquid has no definite shape but has definite volume and cannot be compressed
Gas does not have a definite volume, shape and can be compressed
