Blanche does not complete anagnorisis, and through a psychoanalytic lens, this could be because she is mentally unstable, disillusioned by imagination, and has completely slipped from reality. This is because she has been constantly over and over again denied the love that she craves, whilst attempting to wear a facade of light austerity. "I have always relied on the kindness of strangers" Is Blanche's final tragic line, exposing the utter brutality of society and the exploitation and mistreatment of the vulnerable. Blanche is almost infantalised in Scene 11, showing the level of mental disingtegration she is facing, and to a Modern Audience and a 1950s audience, this would evoke pathos and be deeply disturbing.
