can lead to innercity areas becoming deprived & suburban house prices increase
can be limited by strategies such as green belts
e.g. metropolitan green belt surrounding London
not always successful, developers worknto remove green belt status
counter-urbanisation
people move urban -> rural
people seek better QOL
modern tech & socio-economic advancements = less drawbacks to living in a rural area
starting to increase but doesn't overtake urbanisation rates
urban resurgence
people move back into city
occurs when schemes put in place to improve QOL in city area
can cause socio-economic inequalities
gentrification and excess wealth mean original pop. struggle to keep up with higher cost of living
