Dimensions, Tolerances and Assemblies
Dimension
How to dimension
Tolerance: +-0.2 is tolerance, defines the dimension is allowed to deviate
-
Dimension text (base of dimension): Units is in mm, bottom corner of drawing
Extension line: extend from surface of the object and establish size of dimension. Does not touch the object line and extend past the dimension line
Extension line offset: a gap between object surface and extension line, as not to be confuse with the visible line of model
Types of Dimension
Dimensioning small features: placing arrow head between extension lines may make dimension difficult to read. Arrow head can be placed outside of extension line instead
Dimensioning of Multiple Features: to dimension multiple same dimension, use N x Dimension
-
-
Chain Dimension: should only be used if function of object would not be affected by the accumulation of the tolerances
Dimensioning of circle, arc and hole: Circle dimensioned by its diameter, Arc dimensioned by radius, Holes located by their centerlines
Superimposed Running Dimension: simplifies parallel dimension in order to reduce space used on drawing
-
Parallel Dimension (datum dimension): consist of several dimension originating from common reference surface
Tolerances
Important of tolerance
-
It cannot be manufactured exactly to the dimensions stated in the drawing. Tolerance are included with dimensions in engineering drawings to take account these manufacturing limitations
Types of Tolerance
-
-
Bilateral Tolerance: allowed to vary in two directions from specific dimension. Both directions need not vary be the same amount
