State's rights
The creation of the colonies influenced future ideas of state's rights by ruling themselves with little interference from the mother countries and they had voice in the government.
The purpose of the federal government was to decide what the state's were able to decide on, if ist not written for the federal government then it was for the state's to chose.
The 10 amendments said that the powers that aren't delegated to or prohibited by the states are to the people
Industry v Agriculture
climate
The long growing season and fertile soil made large scale agriculture profitable for the southern regions, but the northern region was dominated by factories and big cities so they used manufactured goods for profit.

slavery
The warm climates in the south made slavery possible due to the need for people to pick the cash crops and work in the factories.
Uncle Toms Cabin : A story written about the life and treatment of slaves to make people realize that slaves are also people but aren't treated like it and to make people begin to protest against slavery and have more people help them.
Led to people realizing how badly slaves were treated and made people feel emotional about how they were treated
Tariff
A Tariff is a tax on imported goods this is to help protect industries in the country by raising the prices of foreign made products, people will be more likely to buy American goods.

Sectionalism was a divide in states due to differences in economic systems, social structures, customs, and political values.

only 6.9 million out of 31 million people voted on the election of 1860 because the rest were either women, children, or of color
