Biology
Types of cells
Vacuole
Sac filled with fluid, membrane known as tornoplast- makes cell turgid, sugars, amino acids act as food store
-
-
-
-
-
Golgi apparatus
Made up of cistemae, membrane bounded vesicles- adds carbs to proteins> glycoproteins, produces enzymes, transports + stores lipids- forms lyosome
Ribosome
-
80s
Eukaryotic cells, made of RNA and proteins, associated with RER- site of protein synthesis
Cell wall
Plants, microfibils found in matrix
-
Mitochondria
Rod shape, double membrane, inner folded into cristae, matrix made up of proteins, lipids, ribosomes, DNA
Site of aerobic respiration, high metabollic activity, have own DNA- can make own proteins
Specialised cells
Red blood cell
Bioconcave, no nucleus- more haemoglobin
Sperm cell
Haploid, many mitochondria, unduipodium- energy to move faster, acts a tail
-
Palisade mesophyll cell
Large vacuole, takes in large volumes of water
White blood cell
Globular shape- in plant, absorb water
-
Eukaryotes
-
Contain membrane bound organelles E.G. mitochondria, golgi aparatus
-
-
-
-
-
Tissues
Columnar epithelial
Some cells ciliated- hair like structures on top of the cells, found in the trachea, waft mucus away from lungs
-
-
Endothelial
Lines inner walls of blood vessels, provides short diffusion distance
Microscopes
Electron
Better magnification - often from 10,000x to 1,000,000x

Light
-
Maginification usually ranges from 40x to 2,000x
