TREATMENT:
Cognitive Processing Therapy:
- 12-week course.
- Weekly sessions of 60-90 minutes.
- First: Talk about the traumatic experience with you therapist.
- Second: Write about what happened, in detail.
Prolonged Exposure Therapy: - 8-15 sessions.
- 90 minutes per session.
- Early on you will be taught breathing exercises to help with anxiety.
- Later you will make a list of things you have been avoiding and learn how to face them.
- You will tell the therapist about the traumatic experience, then go home and listen to a recording of yourself.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing:
- 3 months of weekly sessions.
- Might not have to tell therapist about what happened.
- Concentrate on it while watching or listening to something they're doing.
- Goal is to be able to think of something positive while remembering trauma.
