Migration
- Romans left for England in 400AD
- Initially raided the coast, then established a living there
- 'Angles', 'Jutes' and 'Saxons' joined to become the Anglo- Saxons.
- Settled in Northern England and followed Scandinavian rules
- The Vikings arrived in around 800AD
- Soon, all the different kingdoms united into England.
Norman Conquest
- Edward the Confesser- the Saxon King of Britain
- After Edward died, there was no heir
- 1066: Britain was invaded by Norman forces

- H Godwinson met him in Hastings
- The Normans won against the Saxons
- William landed in England in Sep 1066

Murder of Becket
- Becket is loyal to the King, until his demandings are taken too far
- Becket then decides to run away to France to hide from the king.
- King Henry appointed Thomas Becket as head of church
- Becket finally makes up with the king and comes back.
- However, he breaks his promise wiht the King about becoming friends and expels all the bishops who supported him
King John & Magna Carta
- Magna Carta- was made to stop King John taxing his people too heavily.
- The Magna Carta introduced the 'innocent till proven guilty' scheme
- King John's characteristics contradicted what a good king would be like.
- A source said that he was more of a tyrant than a king
- Didn't use his money wisely
Black Death

- Everyone in Europe ws affected in someway
Peasants Revolt
- In 1381, thousands of peasants marched to London in revolt.
- Because of the Black Death, people higher up the feudal system had a less amount of workers as most of them had died.
- The Hundred Years War also affected the revolt as the French would fight for the throne.
