- - - - Today's Impact: The A-T-U Index alllows scholars to indentify the underlying structure and theme of folktales to find commonalities in different tales, which allows for entensive scholarly analysis.
- - - - An example of a subcategory under Persecuted Haroine is 510A Cinderella. Here, the tale 510A Cinderella strays from 510B Catskin as there are each seperated under subcategories of 510.
        
        The following is a quote from the summary of 510A Cinderella: "She obtains beautiful clothing from a supernatural being [D1050.1, N 815]" (Harvard Library). In this case the "[D1050.1, N 815]" is a cross-reference to the Motif-Index of Folk Literature, showing what aspects of the tale fit under what motif. These cross-references are found at the end of almost every sentence in the summary, each connecting the tale to a different motif.
        
        At the bottom of the 510A Cinderella description is a list of "combinations" or other tale types that are ususally combined with ATU 510. For example, under 510A the combinations list includes: 327A, 403, 480, 510B, 408, 409, 431, 450, 511, 511A, 707, and 923.
