Plants system
Photosynthesis
Plants can make their own food by photosynthesis
All living organisms cannot make their own food
They depend on plants for food directly or indirectly
They must have these four conditions for photosynthesis
carbon dioxide
entering the leaf from the surrounding air
oxygen leaving the leaf into the surrounding air
water
Transported to the leaves by water-carrying tubes
so that the leaves have water to carry out photosynthesis
chlorophyll
Traps energy from the sunlight so photosynthesis can take place
sunlight
Helps maintain the amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the air
Removes carbon dioxide from the surrounding air when making food
Gives out oxygen to the surrounding air when making food
Parts of a plant
A tropical flowering plants have the following parts
Flower
Attract animals to help in reproduction to produce fruits and seeds.
Fruit
Attract animals to help disperse the seeds to prevent overcrowding
Protect the seeds which can germinate into young plants.
Leaf
Water in the plant also loses through the leaves so the more the leaves, the more water loss in the plant.
The leaves are arrange this way, such as more widespread, so that they can absorb the maximum sunlight to make more food for the plant
Allows exchange of carbon dioxide gas and oxygen gas between the leaves and their surrounding air through many small holes called stomata.
Has chlorophyll to capture sunlight for the leaves to make food
Stem
Transport water, mineral salts and food from place to place within the plant.
Food-carrying tubes helps distribute food made in the leaves to all parts of plants, including the roots.
Water-carrying tubes helps transport water and mineral salts upwardly.
Provides support for brunches and leaves to allow leaves to get the maximum amount of sunlight to make food.
Holds up the plant from the ground.
Root
Absorbs water
Water allows plants to make food in the presence of sunlight.
Absorbs mineral salts from soil
Mineral salts allow the plants to grow more healthier.
Provides support by anchoring the plant firmly in soil
Each part has important function and they work together to help plants grow healthily and stay alive
Plants have many parts that combine to form a system
