A Doll's House

A streetcar named desire
Constrast between
Blanche and Stanley
:
Blanche represents the portion of society that cannot let the past behind them. In America, the high class (after WWII) and the aristocracy is starting to crumble.
In contrast, Stanley represents the portion of society that is starting to emerge, to climb in the social ladder. It juxtaposes with Blanche, because the aristocracy still believed in the social status. Furthermore, Stanley represents the immigration in the United States in this period. They are a group that has arrived and is there to stay, although the portion of society Blanche represents might have a hard time to accept it and recognize it
stage directions
The
animalization
of Stanley highlights the idea that he is an immigrant. (he is different, he is a brute)
lighting
Tennessee Williams always portrays Blanche under dim lights. Blanche is aware of this, and doesn't like to be seen in straight light. This depicts her as, not only a liar, but as someone who tries to hide her true-self. This contrasts with Stanley because he shows his true self the moment he appears: when he throws a piece of meat to his wife (Stella).
Mrs Linde vs Nora
Krogstad vs Torvald
Argument 1: Nora juxtaposes with the character of mrs linde as they have experienced different lives. The indepedence of mrs linde contrasts with the dependence of nora.
(stage directions on behaviors and actions) - amount of talking of each character
Argument 2: For Krogstad and Torvald: They differ in the way in the values adopted to survive with society critics- Krogstad is everything Torvald wants to avoid
(possible argument)
for each character there is an opposite or juxtaposed character to highlight the other´s identity identities. Ibsen puts Mrs linde and Krogstad there in order to highlight Nora and Torvald´s actions
