Discuss the effect of contrast and/or juxtaposition in two of the works…

- - - - By presenting these contrasitng character, Ibsen is challenging traidcional gender roles and highlights the limitations and injustice that women faced those times. Through their experiences and interactions, Nora and Mrs Linde expose the hypocrisy and rigidity of the social norms that governed women's life.
        
        Through Torvald, use of dialogue.
        
        For both characters (Nora and Torvald)Ibsen is able to show the traditional roles of genders and highlights their obligations and limitations attached to their gender
      - Nora and Mrs Linde are both women who challenge stereotypes in different ways. Nora, as the wife of a successful banker, occupies a position of relative privilage and is able to use her charm and beauty to manipulate her husband. Mrs Linde, on the other hand has had to navigate more difficult circumstances in her life, including the death of her husband. This made her a more independent and self-reliant figure, unlike Nora, she does not rely on her looks or charms to get what she wants.
      - Their personalities also differ from each other. Nora is shown as impulsive and immature, while Mrs Linde is portrayed as a more reserved, mature woman. This might also be a consequence of their context as Nora has a relatively stable home with her husband and children while Mrs Linde is a widow with no children.

    - - Torvald is the representation of the stereotypical ideal man of 19th-century society, meanwhile, Krogstad represents evilness and corruption. The purpose of the contrast of characters has on the play is to show a clear difference between both male stereotypes. One is the ideal wealthy man, with a beautiful loving wife and a stable and secure job, while the other is recently unemployed, is evil and blackmails people for his own benefit.
- - - - Blanche is a woman who lives a life of illusions. She lies to the outside world, and she also lies to herself. Blanche lives an illusory life, living in the present but still attached to the past. Stella, on the other hand, is well detached from the past, and she clearly lives in reality.
        
        Blanche is dettached from reality because of her faulty actions. Stella, however, didn't commit any erroneous actions. This would juxtapose these characters even more, as one could be considered to be a tragic character, meanwhile the other is not.
        
        The juxtaposition between Blanche and Stella, continuing the previous statement, is in their differing responses to their circumstances and relationships. Blanche tries to escape her past through illusions and fantasies, while Stella chooses to confront her reality and make the best of it.
    - - The role of Stanley plays a significant role on Stanley highlighting all the differences in Blanche. Therefore we can say he is Blanche's foil.
      - Stanley represents the new working class that is rising, is powerful and is there to stay. Represents New America. EMERGING
      - Blanche is presented as a delicate woman, meanwhile Stanley is presented as a brute, animal-like man.
