they recognised the right to self-determination of peoples from defeated empires
allowed new states to emerge
because of Wilson’s Fourteen Points
Second International dissolved as the socialist parties didn't share same opinion about Great War
socialist movement split and communism appeared
accepted by revolutionary socialists and some anarchists
A DIFFICULT RECOVERY AFTER THE GREAT WAR
first years in post-war Europe (1918–1925) marked by a major economic crisis
still a lot of destruction and financial disorder
led to low
currency devaluation
unemployment
production rates
social problems
Germany couldn't pay war reparations imposed by Treaty of Versailles
France occupied the Ruhr Valley

Inflation rose to 1 billion percent
led to the economic and moral ruin of the country
managed to get out of hyperinflation with help from the United States

THE ROARING TWENTIES
League of Nations was established to promote peaceful, open and balanced diplomacy
had to overcome many difficulties
In the first post-war period, international relations were very tense
shown by the French occupation of the Ruhr Valley
United States never joined the League of Nations
Germany and the Soviet Union were admitted later
The prosperity of the United States was due to
the repayment of credit given to Europe during the conflict
credit granted to Europe to rebuild the continent
increased exports
financial operations on the stock market
the development of industry
