Reasons for prioritisation of tasks
internal/external deadlines
is it be asked by someone internal - higher up or external - a costumer
interim/final deadlines
Interim deadlines means
getting a fraction of a task complete
urgency of task
something urgent should take priority over a task that has a deadline at the end of next week
importance of task
work to gain a new client/keep a customer happy should take priority over preparing for an internal meeting
significance of originator
Who depends on the task being completed eg Line manager, CEO - some tasks are prioritised based on the importance of an originator
interactivty of task
some tasks have to be completed before the next stage can be completed and so thought has to go into ensuring the ground work is done to allow a task to be completed effectively.
complexity of task
time must be out aside to concentrate on complex tasks to ensure they’re completed on time
length of time to complete
sometimes tasks that are quick and easy to complete are done first to allow for a longer block of time to be given to a more complex task. Must leave enough time to get more complex tasks completed
significance of task
costumers will likely always take the precedence over internal issues and so complex from a customer is likely to take greater priority over an employee wishing to get information for their presentation
sustainability for delegation
some tasks can be delegated to their subordinates allowing managers to reduce their workload to concentrate on higher priority tasks
proximity of appointments
tasks in the same/close location should be completed at the same time to maximise efficiency and reduce costs
resource constraints
to meet organisational objectives, businesses may try to reduce costs by not offering over time. Therefore meaning that priority has to go on meeting the order deadline to meet the needs of the customers
time constraints
when staff need to come together to work on a project, everyone's time needs to be considered so that everyone is available at the same time and that everyone views the project with the same level of priority.
diary clashes
everyone working on a project needs to be available to meet/discuss the project is ne member of the team works part time, meetings cant go ahead if people are off
