Animal System and Digestive System
What is a system?
A system is made up of different parts working together to carry out a certain function
Major Systems in the human body
Respiratory System
Parts
Nose, Windpipe, Lungs, Diaphragm
Functions
Takes in oxygen so that the body can use it to obtain energy from food
Removes carbon dioxide from the body as carbon dioxide can be harmful
Circulatory System
Parts
Heart and Blood Vessels
Functions
Transports useful substances, such as water, food, oxygen and other nutrients to all parts of the body
Transports waste substances and carbon dioxide from all parts of the body so that they can be removed from the body
Muscular System
Parts
Muscles
Function
Helps in the movement of various body parts
Skeletal System
Parts
Bones, Ligaments, Tendons, Cartilage
Functions
Gives the body shape and support
Protects some important internal organs
Provides the attachment point for muscles to attach as to help the bones to move
Digestive System (Elaboration on different parts)
Functions
Absorbs water and minerals in the body
To break down food so that our body can absorb digested food and nutrients
1 - Mouth
Saliva
a digestive juice
mixed with some of the food
Teeth
Food is chewed into smaller pieces
increase surface area of food
speeding up digestion.
2 - Gullet
Partially digested food from the mouth moves along it to the stomach
Stomach
Digestive juice is released. The stomach churns and mixes the food with the digestive juices to digest some food.
Small Intestine
Digestion of food is completed, and the simple substances, which are also nutrients, are absorbed by the blood stream.
These nutrients are then transported to all parts of the body through the blood.
Large Intestine
Water from the undigested food are absorbed into the body
Anus
Solid wastes or faeces are passed out of the body
