Classroom Approaches
Content-Based-Instruction
Content is taught in a foreign language.
Usually has a teacher proficient in the language and another teacher proficient in the content teaching it.
The main focus is teaching the content itself, and the language is used as something that further assists in teaching it.
This can assist students in multiple ways.
They can feel more incentivized to learn content in that specific language.
Furthermore gives students more of an incentive to learn the language.
Gives them feedback on how well they are developing the language.
Gives the student more knowledge related to the content.
Utilizes multiple types of material, such as videos, books, websites, etc.
Example of this: Teaching literature on a foreign langauge.
Content and Language Integrated Learning
Utilized to teach a language with the assistance of content.
It doesn't purely focus on either teaching the language itself nor the subject of the content, but rather focuses on multiple points.
The subject of the subject.
The language use.
Thinking skills.
The culture related to the language.
It does not focus on a single language skill either.
Multiple skills such as reading comprehension, writing, speaking and listening are focused on.
Both content and language should be integrated.
