Stories like "The Sisters," Araby," "Eveline," and "The Dead." talks about the 1) the relationships between of the characters in the story, 2) how the rules, religion, politics, and culture that society put on them affect their life in Dublin.
It is about a young boy who meets an old priest named father Flynn. The story talks about the strange acts that the priest does and that people in the area talk badly about him. And in the priest's funeral, the kid thinks about life death. The story then spend most of it's time to talk about the themes of death that also happens in other stories in the whole book of the Dubliners
"Eveline" is about a girl who works as a clerk in a department store in Dublin where she wants to start a whole new life with her lover Frank in Buenos Aired but can't because of her responsibilities at home. When her mother passed away, she promised to stay in Dublin and take care of her abusive father and her siblings, taking many of her mother's responsibilities. Despite the horrible conditions still, by the end of the story, Eveline still chose to stay in Dublin as she watches Frank's ship as well as her opportunity of starting a better life slowly sail away into the distance.
