The king appointed Primo de Rivera prime minister
The new dictator immediately suspended the Constitution, dissolved Parliament and banned political parties and trade unions

Civil directorate, Parliament was replaced by National Consultative Assembly and Patriotic Union inspired by Mussolini's National Fascist Party was imposed
Republican opposition to the dictatorship began to form in 1928
The republican, socialist and nationalist opposition unified its demands in the Pact of San Sebastian
Abdication of Alfonso XIII and the proclamation of the Second Republic
