dimensions in drawings

extension line is to extend from the surface of object and establish size of dimension. does not touch the object lines and extend slightly past the dimension lines
extension line offset : a gap between object surface and extension line, not confused with visible line of model
types of dimension
- parallel dimensioning , superimposed running dimensioning, chain dimensioning, combined dimensioning, dimensioning small features, dimensioning of multiple features, dimensioning of radius, dimensioning of circle , arc and hole, dimensioning of angles
rules
- dimension should not be duplicated ( any information should not be repeated )
- avoid dimensioning to hidden and features
- dimension lines, extension line and objects outline should not cross or overlap
tolerances
tolerance are included with dimensions in engineering drawings to take into account these manufacturing limitation
to ensure that mating parts fit well , ensure to have good quality controls for parts from different companies, range of tolerance are needed, must have exact measurements.
types of tolerances : bilateral , unilateral , limit

assembly modelling
multiple parts are brought together to assemble a complex product representation. collaboration among designer, engineers, manufacturing technicians and others to ensure a product assembly works.
constructing an assembly begins with bringing in a base component, because of the central role. each component brought in needs to be oriented and located relative to other components in assembly
