FLUIDS
-
DENSITY
- The density, ρ of an object is its mass per unit volume ;

- SI unit : kg/m^3
SPECIFIC GRAVITY
- The ratio between the density of an object, and a reference substance
- We usually use water as our reference substance
- to find specific gravity, we can use varies formula such as ;
¬ divide the density,mass or weight of object with density,mass or weight of water
PRESSURE
- defined as the normal force (F┴) per unit area (A).
Formula for pressure;
- SI unit : N/m^2
- Scalar quantity
TYPE OF PRESSURE
ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE
- The pressure exerted by the weight of the atmosphere.
- 1 atm = one atmosphere = 1.013 × 10^5 N m^−2
ABSOLUTE PRESSURE
- the sum of the atmospheric pressure and the gauge
pressure.
- formula
GAUGE PRESSURE
- Pressure referenced to one atmosphere, and is the pressure actually shown on the dial of a gauge
- formula
PASCAL PRINCIPLE
- Pascal principle states that :
“Pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is transmitted undiminished to every portion of the fluid and the walls of its container.”
