factors that influence temperature and rainfall
distance
distance from equator
the angle of the noon sun is increasingly lower the further away.
the angle of the noon sun in the tropics near the equator is always high and tempertures are also high
height
hight above sea level(altitude)
in hot deserts the lack of water vapour in the atmosphere results in the earths surface becoming very hot during the day at night this heat escapes quickly back into the atmosphere causing desert nights to be cold with a large difference bewteen day and night tempertures
the suns rays heat the earths surface whuch then passes on the heat to the air above it water vapour, pollution and dust in the air prevents this heat from escaping back into space
the rate at which temp decreases with altitude varies but the average is 2*c for every 300m
ocean currents
the warm ocean currents in tropical areas have little effect on temperatures as the areas are already warm
warm and cold currents raise or lower the tempertures of land surface if the winds blow from the sea to the land
mountains
mountains have an effect on rainfall
the direction of the slope faces its known as its aspect and this also effects temperture
