ANTIVIRAL DRUGS
Acyclovir
Mechanisim of action
-
Selectively inhibit replication of herpes virus. After intracellur uptake,it is converted to acyclovir monophosphate by virally encoded thymidine kinase
Which then is converted into acyclovir triphosphate by host cell kinase, and comparatively inhibits herpes virus specified DNA polymerases
-
-
Route of administration
-
When taken oral must be taken with or without food 2 to 5 times a day for 5 to 10 days as well as up to 12 months to prevent outbreak of genital herpes
Contra-indications
-
Be cautious in renal failure or impairment,
-
-
-
Amantadine
Machanism of action
Interferes with release of infectios viral nucleic acid into host cell through interaction with transmembrane domain of M2 protein of the virus
-
Release dopamine feom nerve endings of the brain cells, together with stimulation of norepinephrine
-
Route of administration
Taken by mouth, capsules, tablets and liquid taken 1 to 2 times a day
Storage
Stored at room temperature of 20°C to 25°C , can also be stored beween 15°C to 30°C
-
-
Adenofovir
-
-
Mechanism of action
Works by blocking reverse transcriptase, which is an enzyme crucial for hepatitis B to reduce in the body
