+Research to support- Adorno 2000 middle class American, completed F-scale, auhoritarians scored highly, identified as ‘strong people’, aware of their and others status’. Proves that people obey due to personality, not situational factors. However, Adorno found a strong positive correlation, this does not mean a cause and effect relationships, may be a third factor.
-Problems with F-scale to measure authoritarian personality- standardise procedure, had to answer ‘agree strongly-disagree strongly’ this is a closed question, then correlated to measure personality traits. This is not representative, they didnt have a chance to explain their answers, making this procedure not reliable. However, as it was a questionnaire it meant that it was easy to collect the dat and analyse it.
