Water Cycles - Coggle Diagram
Water Cycles
Why is the water cycle important?
Living things need water to survive
It gives a constant supply of natural and refreshed water
Evaporation helps separate dirt from salt on land and in water
It purifies the water
75% of our bodies are made of water
The digestive, respiratory, circulatory system all need water
Air sacs called alveoli have a layer of water around them
Oxygen and carbon dioxide both dissolves in a layer of water
Plants need water to germinate and carry out photosynthesis
In the plant transport system, water helps with the movement of substances.
Why is water a precious resource?
It is limited
Most of the solid water are icebergs and glaciers, while some are groundwater
Even though 3/4 of the earth is water, only 1% is drinkable
It also exists in water vapour or in ice and snow form.
Oceans, seas, lakes, ponds, rivers, and wells are sources of water
Water is useful in all 3 states
Water pollution happens when harmful substances get in the water
Unsightly and foul-smelling
Endanger/kill living things
When, polluted we cannot use it, and we will lose more water to drink.
Need to be treated to be drinkable
Time and money
What is the water cycle?
The continuous of water movement
Occurs because water can change between states of matter
Heat energy from the Sun evaporates water, forming water vapour
The water being evaporated came from the ground and water bodies and animals
Warm air cools as it rises up. Water vapour in side condenses into droplets and forms clouds
When droplets become heavy, they fall from clouds as rain, snow, or hail
The rain goes back to the ground and water bodies as fresh water
Clouds provide us with rain, snow or hail
They help us reduce the effect of the sun's rays
Snow is made up of snowflakes
When temperature drops below freezing point, it freezes and forms ice crystals.
When the ground reaches below freezing point, it forms frost
Water Vapour freezes into ice crystals
Hail is frozen rain or hailstones
The droplets freeze at the top of the clouds
The wind carriies the droplets up and down, creating lots of layers of ice
How can we conserve water?
ocean and seas water are undrinkable
We have a limited supply and must use it well
We can promote water conservation through posters, campaigns and water rationing exercises
Water rationing is controlling the distribution of water to the public
