How Stalin gained power
eliminated all competition like Leon Trotsky
Turned against the same people who helped him
Propaganda
Stalin was a master at manipulating the public and created an image of a People's person/Father of Russia for himself.
Stalin used things like censure, newspapers, art and even a doppelgänger to support his public image
Propaganda resulted in the public loving Stalin
The Great Purges
Purpose was to eliminate any threats to Stalin's power
The effect of the Purges was that people turn one against another
Anyone deemed a threat to Stalin was sent to gulags, died, or sent to work camps
The 5 Year plans
Result was: Growth of industry, creation of major projects, more power, farms collectivized
Not fully successful, although not a complete failure either
Main goal was to industrialize Russia, find power sources and collectivization
Government had more power over food supply
