Role Bruce Springsteen had in distribution: He granted permission to use his music in the flim, the directors were told he read the book and promoted it to him for a flim that he can be a part of. His management company who owns the rights to his songs, gave the rights at a highly discounted rate. Soundtrack a key piece of merchandise for the film and they promoted this synergy online regularly. (synergy working together to achieve an objective that couldn't be achieved independently) Use of star power (Bruce Springsteen)
The production company was not vertically integrated so needed to outsource the distribution. premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2019 this gives independent companies to showcase their work to film critics and distributors. (Which involved New Line Cinema)
Gurinder Chadha then took her film to the Seattle International Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best Feature Film, and won the Paul Mazursky Award at the Traverse City Film Festival in Michigan

(have already attracted pre-sold audience mainstream appeal)
Levantine films, ingenious Bend it films, Cornerstones films
(use of synergy with these companies that help the independent film to develop further)

Ingenious Media added more investment for the film and again had some major success with films such as Life of Pi
New Line Cinema gave funding for the distribution process (had the right to marketing) This is a subsidiary of Warner Brothers (owned By Time Warner which is owned by ATL. Huge companies with global power. New Line cinema helped the film to secure a theatrical release in 2307 cinemas across 85 different companies. They focused on US distribution.
Blinded By The Light is based on Greetings from Bury Park by Sarfraz Manzoor. It is based on the 'true story' of a Pakistani boy growing up in the UK in the 1980s. This link demonstrates how the historical context, nostalgia and British- asian identity is used in the promotion of the flim.
Released on 27th January 2019 around the time of Brexit negotiations. The film would have been appealing particularly to ethnic minority audiences, and also to those western audiences who disagreed with all the racism/ xenophobia in the media at the time. Yesterday was released at the same time which was a similar film. Bend It Films blamed this on their low US box office takings as they felt it would have confused and diluted the audience,- perhaps audiences have to choose between those two films.
Bend It network: Independent film company (staff 2 people) Gurinda Chadha. This meant they had to get financial support from other companies.
(In the website) Bend It TV: "aims to take stories of characters who are normally on the margins and place them at the centre of the screen for mainstream, international audiences"/"diverse stories"/ "We tell urgent, joyous, subversive, female driven stories...see the world from a new prespective."
Trailer: reference to 80s (politics, music) critic quotes making it more reliable for the audiences.
active audiences: social media- fan polls, behind the scenes (in the websites) tagged Bruce Springsteen. The producers regularly retweeted postive comments about the film to help Word Of Mouth advertising. Tweets directed audiences to buy tickets via Fandango which is owned by Warner Brothers. So the distribution company cross promoting its other subsidiaries.
