Theories of persuasion
The Norm of Reciprocity: based on the social norm of people returning a favour when one is granted to them
Door in the Face: when a large request is made in aim for the smaller favour to be granted after
Foot in the Door: when a small request is made followed by a larger one to increase likeliness of the individual obliging to the favour
Attitude

Behaviour: an action in response to an experience
Cognitive: a belief formed through an experience
Affective: feelings towards an experience
Three main theories of attitude
Yale Communication Approach: the condition in which people are likely to change their attitude in response to persuasive messages. The structure focuses on the source, message and the audience
Elaboration Likelihood Model: central and peripheral route. Central route focuses on specific messages driven by logic and credibility. Peripheral route relies on positive emotion and is often about unimportant issues.
Experience (direct/indirect): focuses on experience where direct experiences are formed through first hand experience. Indirect is formed through certain ideas which are less personal.
Social Behaviour
Social behaviour is any action stemmed from an influence of people or a figure of authority
Positive social behaviour: random acts of kindness, picking up rubbish, holding the door open for someone
Negative social behaviours: drink driving, drug use, discrimination, bullying
Factors which have an impact on attitude
Personal experiences: beliefs and values formed through personal experiences can have an impact on an individuals attitude towards certain situations
Media and societal norms: many people feel the need to conform to specific trends, standards and expectations
Attitude can impact an individuals behaviour and vice versa; past social behaviours have the power to influence attitude
