MEDICATIONS
Atrovent neb 0.5mg BID COPD:it is a Sama that helps with bronchodilation and as an anticholinergic,side effects includes tachycardia.

Albuterol 1.25mg neb q 4 hours PRN SOB:helps with bronchodilation,its a short acting beta agonist ,its important to watch for tachycardia,hyperglycemia and hypertension.

Diazepam 1mg PO q 8 hours for anxiety.Its a Benzodiazepine that helps anxiety,it can help decrease anxiety from air hunger ,side effects include respiratory depression and sedation.
Prednisone 20mg po daily for COPD:its a steroid that helps inflammation ,some side effects can include adrenal insufficiency,bleeding ,thin skin and hyperglycemia.
Acetaminophen 325mg 1-2 tabs PO q 4 hrs. PRN:its used for pain and as antipyretic,it helps reduce pain from the inflammation of bronchi,side effects are mostly seen in the liver.

Activity intolerance
• assist client with reference to pulmonary rehabilitation to help learn about ways to avoid exacerbations and different techniques to use to help tolerate activity better.
• use a portable pulse oximetry to monitor oxygen saturation changes with activity.
impared gas exchnage:
• encourages pursed lip breathing to increase oxygen saturation.
• Elevate the patients head of bed as tolerated as it helps breathing better.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
a preventable, treatable, but often progressive disease characterized by persistent airflow limitation.Continues to worsen even after treatment.Chronic bronchitis and emphysema are two conditions that make up COPD.(Lecture notes)
