Type A Reactions

- Hypoglycaemia due to insulin
- Bradycardia - Secondary to Beta blockers
- Haemorrhage due to aticoagulants (warfarin)
- Hypokalemia due to thiazide diuretics
Type B reactions
Not predicatble from the drugs main pharmacological action
Not dose-related
Severe with considerable mortality

- Anaphylaxis - Penicillins
- Anaphylactoid - ACE inhibitor induced angioedema
- Liver diease - Halothane GA associated with acute hpatic necrosis
- Renal disease - NSAIDs can cause acute interstitial nephritis
- Carbimazole can induce neutropenia
Type C reactions

- Cushing's from prednisolone
- Analgesic nephropathy - Long term NSAIDs
- Tardive dyskinesia - Neuroleptic Agents
Type D reactions
Delayed reactions/ Developmental abnormalities
Children of patients, or years later
- Second cancers in those treated with alkylating agents
- Thaidomide in pregnacy - birth defects
- CArniofacial malformations - Infants of mothers who took isotretinoin
- Vaginal carcinoma - Daughters of women treated with diethylstilbestrol during pregnancy
Type E reations

- Unstable angina - Cessation of beta blockers
- Adrenocortical insufficiency - Long term steroids
- Seizures - Anticonvulsants
