What are fungi
They are living things, some grow in moist places
Some need a microscope to be seen clearly, such as mould and yeast
They are called microorganisms
They feed on other living things, dead or alive
They break down the matter they grow on into simple substances and absorb them
They reproduce through spores, it is very light and tiny
spores can be carried by wind
How are fungi harmful or useful to us
Useful fungi
Mushroom to be eaten
Yeast to make bread, beer and wine
Some moulds can be used to make cheese
Penicillin(made from penicillium)can be used as an antibiotic in modern medicine
Harmful fungi
Can grow on living things
Grow on human skin to cause athlete's foot and ringworm
Can cause things to spoil when they grow on food
What are bacteria?
