Major Function
The respiratory system is responsible for taking in oxygen and removing carbon dioxide from the body through breathing.
Function of Organs:
Larynx: Contains the vocal cords and controls the flow of air.
Trachea: Transports air to and from the lungs.
Pharynx: Provides a pathway for both air and food.
Bronchi: Carry air to the lungs.
Nasal cavity: Filters and humidifies air.
Bronchioles: Control airflow to the alveoli.
Nose: Warms, moistens, and filters air.
Alveoli: Site of gas exchange between the lungs and blood.
Lungs: Expand and contract to help with breathing.

Diseases and Malfunctions:
Lung Cancer: Abnormal growth of cells in the lungs that can interfere with breathing and spread to other parts of the body.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): A group of lung diseases that block airflow and make it difficult to breathe.
Asthma: Chronic inflammation of the airways that can make breathing difficult.
Pneumonia: An infection of the lungs that can cause fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.
