Mechanism of action
Aguanosine analog is monophospharylated in the cell by herpers virus encoded enzyme thymidine kinase. Therefore, the virus infected cells are most susceptible. Monophosphate is converted to di and triphosphate forms by the host cell kinases.
Aciclovir triphosphate competes with deoxyguanosine as a substrate for viral DNA polymerase. It incorporates into the viral DNA, causing premature DNA chain termination.
