Giorgio Vasari (Arezzo, 1511 - Florence, 1574)
Vasari was a multifaceted genius: he was not only an important writer on art, but also an architect and one of the greatest and most prolific painter of his time.
Vasari enjoyed a high reputation during his lifetime and amassed a considerable fortune. He married Niccolosa Bacci, a member of one of the richest and most prominent families of Arezzo.

He built a fine house in Arezzo in 1547 and decorated its walls with paintings. Now, Casa Vasari, is a museum in his honor.
In 1563, he founded the Florentine Accademia e Compagnia delle Arti del Disegno.

The young duke is represented with is shining armor. The round stool indicates that his reign will never end.

The paint was commissioned by the Medici in 1532.

In the foreground the naked bodies of Adam and Eve. The Virgin, occupies the upper part of the scene, supported by winged cherubs and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
The head of the snake, symbol the devil, is under her right foot.

“Le vite de' più eccellenti pittori, scultori e architettori”
Often simply known as Le Vite, is a series of artist biographies which is considered the most famous book on art history.
Vasari published this work in two editions; the first edition in 1550 and the second one in 1568.
The second edition was enriched with images of artists. With this operta, Vasari introduced us to the biographies and artworks of 178 artists.
