Procedure
- had the participants draw to see who would be the student and who would be the teacher but the participant was always a teacher and someone who was in on the experiment was deemed the student
- the teacher would ask the student questions and when the student would answer the questions wrong the teacher would shock the student
- the teacher would continue to shock the student until they reached the end or became too uncomfortable to move on. when the particitate showed concern he would be told to continue by the person conducting the experiment to see if their order outweighed their judgment

Procedure
- Got 24 mentally stable college students and randomly gave them roles of guards and prisoners (normal)
- prisoners were "arrested" in their homes and brought to the prison where they were strip searched and given uniforms
- Prisoner's actions were heavily regulated and enforced by the guards
- guards started being hostile and abusive to the prisoners
- prisoners rebelled the abuse with futile effort

- Asch would devise and ask a question with an obvious answer to somebody in a group
- The group would then attempt to convince that person a wrong answer was correct
