Even though there is only one company that controls the national electricity sales business, PLN still faces losses of up to IDR 38.88 trillion in the first quarter of 2020. PLN's Director of Commerce and Customer Management, Bob Saril, explained that the company suffered losses because many of PLN's operations use US dollars. When the rupiah is depressed by the US dollar to touch Rp. 16,000, the company must swallow the difference in exchange losses.
