In the middle ages uniforms were used at work to denote a specific role or to allign themselves to a company and employer by using a badge on their own clothes. These people would often be in the army or the service of Lords. This helped with showing recognition and legitimacy to others when carrying out acts. We can use this principle of alligence to show pride in our school and to help with recognition.
When popularized, school uniforms began to be used to deferenciate the wealthy and poor. Wealthy people accosiated and used uniforms in their private and prepatory as the popularity of these clothes rose. These finally began to be used in the Americas. An example of these wealthy people at prestigious Eton College required the wearing of a black top hat and tails as their uniform up until 1972.
In poor charity schools, mostly controlled by the church, the children were given uniforms to use since they could not afford to buy their own clothes. At the start of the history of the uniforms, in 1222 these charity schools used cappa clausas, which is latin word for a robe-like oufit.
In 1980, they released a law in Washington and Maryland allowing public schools to voluntarily use school uniforms. This was suprising because uniforms in that time were associated with higher class and wealth. Now, since that law has passed school uniforms have been still equaled to wealth, but a few public schools use them.
In the province of Quebec school uniforms are the most common.
