Banquo
Banquo's part in the play was quite short, he was Macbeth's best friend and fighting partener. After meeting the three witches Macbeth hears that Banquo's sons will become king. Macbeth doesn't like this and has Banquo and Malcolm killed.
The witches
The three witches represent evil, darkness chaos and conflict .
King duncan
Macbeth presents Duncan as a really kind and respectful man who cares about everyone, he was like a cousin to macbeth.

Macduff
Macduff is the first person to realise that Macbeth murdered King duncan, Macduff finds Malcolm after he runs away to help him get revenge on Macbeth. During this time Macbeth kills Macduff's whole family.
The plot
Becoming king
Lady Macbeth then hears about this, she then manipulates Macbeth to kill king duncan later on that night in their castle. After king duncan is killed, Malcolm and Donalbain fear that they will be blamed for his death and they then flee to england so that they don't get killed. Second visit
When the witches visit Macbeth for the second time they tell him to beware of macduff, they tell him that he cant be killed by someone who was born of a woman. This means that if they were born by a c-section they have the ability to kill him, Macduff was born by c-section meaning that Macduff is the only person who can kill him.
The prophecy
Macbeth and Banquo are returning from a victorious battle feeling happy and joyful. They come across three witches that tell them their futures. They tell macbeth that he will become Thane of Glamis and that he will soon become king. They then tell banquo that his sons will become kings in the near future.
Test of loyalty
In england, Malcolm tests Macduff's loyalty and they raise an army to rebel against macbeth. However, Macbeths believes he is invincible because of the witches prophesies.
Key themes
Ambition
Macbeths ambition is the fault of his downfall, it makes him kill king Duncan and many other innocent people. He also cannot stand that Banquo's sons will become king so he has them killed.

Guilt
Macbeth feels guilty for killing his kind, Duncan. Although lady macbeth seemed happy that Macbeth had killed the king, she soon becomes very guilty and ends up "killing her self".
