lenin and his theses
Lenin returned to russia on the 3rd of april 1917
The germans saw the advantage of allowing bolsheviks to enter russia and allow lenin to pass through occupied countries
Lenin mapped out his political programme in his “letters from afar”: he made it clear that the party’s job was to lead people to a second revolution
He believed the Russian middle class was too weak to carry out a full bourgeoisie revolution.
His political
programme was reissued as the april theses, making demands such as the war coming to an immediate end
The bolshevik party initially were against these demands as they thought they were harmful.
By the end of april, lenin had won over the majority of the central bolshevik party strictly through his personality
July days
At the Kronstadt naval base, the navy started their own demonstrations using bolshevik slogans.
The provisional government crushed the demonstrations, and the bolsheviks were blamed for the bloodshed
Bolshevik and lenin’s reputation decreased
kornilov coup
At the end of august, kornilov organised six regimens of troops to march on petrograd
His coup failed when kerensky panicked and ordered a halt. Kornilov refused and so kerensky released bolshevik prisoners and armed them to halt the coup
The bolsheviks benefited from the coup. They took the lead in organising the petrograd red guards.
Bolshevik membership went from 23,000 in February to 200,000 in october.
preparations for revolution
Lenin bombarded the central bolshevik committee with letters saying they should prepare for revolution.
Kamenev and zinoviev were especially against revolution
Lenin eventually got an agreement of 10 to 2 in favour of revolution, but kamenev and zinoviev were still against it
Trotsky sent bolshevik speakers to factories to gain support
He established a military revolutionary committee
Commissars were sent to petrograd garrison units, and 15/18 declared their allegiance to the soviet over the provisional government.
