        Immediate access store (RAM)

        performs all calculations in the CPU e.g. adding numbers
        
        the control unit (CU)
        
        controls how data is moved and decodes data fetched from storage.

        there are 3 ways to increce the speed of the CPU
        
        clock speed
        
        how many times the FDE cycle is done in a second
        
        cores
        
        cores are tiny parts of the CPU that allow for different tasks to be done (see core comports for more detail) the more cores you have the better the programs will run.
        
        cache memory
        
        stores frequent data, the more cache the better the computer will run.
