Horror Trailer
Codes and Conventions
Age Rating
The age rating is shown at the start of a trailer and is normally either a 12,15 or 18 depending on the levels of violentness, blood, language etc.
-
Music
It needs to be scary music to entice the viewer and to make it more suspenseful, a lot of trailers have sound effects at the start of trailers to grab their attention
Text on Screen
The title and short credits are features of a horror trailer and whenever the title is on screen you would often have a sound effect to imply what the film may be about and also the film genre
Voiceovers
Usually not used in film trailers as they might spoil the plotline of the film and it could tell to much of the story
Enigma Codes
Enigma codes are often used in horror film trailers to leave the viewer on the edge of their seat and to make them want to watch the entire film
3 VFX
Digital Compositing
I used some effects in the short film such as the title sequence with it looking like glass smashing and I plan to do that again in the trailer however it would be at a quicker pace because it is a trailer of only 1 and a half minutes so it needs to be short and snappy to get the audience's attention
3D graphics
I would want to use 3D graphics in the title sequence so the audience gets an understanding of the genre in which the film is and also get the idea of the motif of smashing glass
CGI
It would look very natural and realistic looking therefore it would intrigue the audience as it would add more verisimilitude as the viewer would be able to imagine more of what the character is going through
-
2 SFX
Stunt Props
There was sugar glass used in the short film and that would also be used in the trailer to keep with the motif of smashing glass and it allows for the viewer to visualise how the monster breaks in and how it attacks the characters
Make Up
I will use fake blood on the face of one of the characters to portray the pain in which the character is feeling at the time and also the severity of the injury which he has sustained allowing for the audience to maybe feel sympathy so they feel more connected with the characters
